This list covers the John Clayton Chapter area (Gloucester, James City, Mathews, Middlesex and York Counties, as well as the Cities of Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg and Poquoson). Gloucester County
VIMS Teaching Marsh Located at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, Gloucester Point, VA; a one-acre site restored to marshland for both practical and educational purposes; special group tours can be arranged throughout the year by calling 804-684-7846; VIMS Teaching Marsh.

James City County
Ellipse Garden at the Williamsburg Botanical Garden in Freedom Park Located at 5535 Centerville Rd., Williamsburg, VA (corner of Centerville & Longhill Roads) in Freedom Park; a demonstration garden containing many native plants, as well as non-native plants; williamsburgbotanicalgarden.org.
James City County Human Service Center's Water-Wise Garden Located at 5249 Olde Towne Road, Williamsburg, VA; this garden uses native and non-native plants that are drought-tolerant.
Melissa's Meadow Located on 705 S. Henry Street, next to the parking lot of the McCormack-Naglesen Tennis Center on the Law Campus of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA; planted with native plants in memory of Melissa Long Etchberger, the daughter of long-time John Clayton Chapter members Cynthia and Bob Long.
Stonehouse Elementary School's Native Habitat Garden Located at 5316 Rochambeau, Williamsburg, VA; an outdoor classroom created by students, staff, parents and community volunteers which contains over 70 species of native plants to Virginia; a National Wildlife Federation certified wildlife habitat; visitors are welcome during non- school hours: M-F after 3:15pm and on weekends; Stonehouse Elementary Habitat.
(The school is located on Rochambeau/Rt. 30, about 2 miles north of Croaker Rd.)
William and Mary's Wildflower Refuge Located on the campus of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA, behind the SWEM Library; the refuge serves as a teaching and research site for faculty and students and houses many native plants that have been rescued from development sites.

York County
Grafton-Bethel Elementary School Located at 410 Lakeside Dr., Yorktown, VA; a wonderful schoolyard garden with a mix of native and non-native plants.
Mount Vernon Elementary School Located at 310 Mt. Vernon Dr., Yorktown, VA; a wonderful schoolyard garden which includes a red, white and blue America's Anniversary Garden of native plants.
Virginia Living Museum Located at 524 J. Clyde Morris Blvd., Newport News, VA; combines the elements of a native wildlife park, science museum, aquarium, botanical preserve and planetarium; has many native plants areas throughout the outdoor part of the museum and many are labeled; there is an admission fee; www.thevlm.org.
York River State Park Located in Croaker, VA; has a Red, White and Blue Anniversary Garden featuring native plants; plus other native plant areas and, of course, natives throughout the park.
Directions: From I-64, take the Croaker Exit 231B. Go north on Route 607 (Croaker Rd.) for one mile, then right on Route 606 (Riverview Rd.) about one and a half miles to the park entrance. Take a left turn into the park.
Yorktown River Walk Located along the river walk in Yorktown, VA.
